As Brimston pointedout, those two are from Montreal, a crazy multi-cultural town.
If you live around here, being prejudicial against anyone because of their races and/or religions will make you a complete pariah - it's not impossible to stick with 'your own kind', if you're douching enough to try, but, unlike NYC for example, there's no ghetto to hide yourself in... eventually, you'll have to communicate with 'strangers'.
People told me it's a lot like this in Vancouver too; as for Toronto, well, it used to be like this... not so much nowadays, though.
Race or religion aren't a real problem in Montreal... LANGUAGE, on the other hand, now that's a big deal.
